Chanté's Story
Chanté Bernard grew up watching her grandmother cook delicious meals and bake amazing desserts and biscuits from scratch. It wasn’t surprising that she would develop an affinity for baking at 12 years old.
Chanté comes from a family of many great cooks and bakers, and calls herself a California girl with Southern roots. Chanté was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Her dad was born in Natchez, Mississippi, and mom in Augusta, Georgia.
Coming from a big family, Chanté’s dad entertained constantly. One year, he was planning his big “to do”, and she told him she would bake the cakes for his party, and the rest is history.
From a very young age, Chanté knew baking was her passion, but did it for fun, not considering, it could one day become her career. It wasn’t until she earned her BA Degree in Communication that Cakes By Chanté was formed. She baked cakes to earn money while she searched for employment. Her family and friends would always encourage her to sell her cakes. One night, she had a dream to take the last bit of money in her checking account to purchase supplies to bake cakes. She baked many Red Velvet Cakes and gave them to her family and friends and asked them to share with their friends and coworkers. She received positive feedback, and the orders started coming in.
All of her business is from word of mouth. Chanté has baked for many big corporations, chefs, athletes, and celebrities.
Chanté specializes in moist and delicious cakes from scratch. She is passionate about baking each custom dessert with love, using only quality ingredients. Nothing brings her more joy than knowing she has put a big smile on someone’s face after they have eaten her cake.
Chanté loves creating new recipes, and is known for making the best Red Velvet Cake in town, and a luscious Lemon Raspberry Cake that will melt in your mouth.
Chanté recently expanded her business from a home-based business to opening the first mobile bakery in the middle of a Pandemic.
When Chanté is not baking, she enjoys spending time with her family. She has also dedicated most of her career to working for a non-profit, child care resource and referral agency. She currently holds the position of Deputy Director, and oversees Human Resources, Operations, and IT.
Chanté would like to thank everyone who has supported her business, especially her mom, and beloved dad who allowed her to start her business in their kitchen. Her sisters, and her niece Koi are her biggest cheerleaders. Chanté believes her ability to bake without having any formal training is a gift from God, and thanks him every day for blessing her hands to bake Cakes By Chanté.
